What is a death doula?
You may be familiar with birth doulas, a person who shares the practical, emotional, and spiritual load of brining a new life into the world; a death doula, provides support and services to prepare for the end of one's life.
Death is just as natural a part of life as birth so it makes sense to plan for our end of life just as we would plan for any other major life milestone. While conversations about death and dying can feel scary and uncomfortable, it is through having these conversations, being informed, making plans, and communicating our plans to our loved ones that we can bring clarity and control to this time.
My services are non-medical and non-legal, but I can provide support and tools to work in harmony with your legal and medical team.
After practising meditation for over twenty years, and training as a yoga teacher, I have come to understand how life and death are just part of the same dance. While we put so much effort into living well, less consideration is given to how we wish to die, as many of us are unsure how to begin to have these potentially difficult and uncomfortable conversations, or we simply don't want to be a burden to those we leave behind.
At Sacred Samadhi, I bring my expertise as a nervous-system practitioner, biologist, teacher, and deeply empathic human to help you be informed about your rights, to communicate your wishes, to provide practical tools to help your body and mind process the feelings and emotions surrounding death and dying, and to find peace as you transition from this life to what awaits you next … whatever you believe that to be.
What is Sacred Samadhi?
The word sacred is my way of honouring this one precious, human life; from the moment we are conceived to the moment we transition. I whish to acknowledge that existing in this physical human form is an honour and a privilege and it is equally an honour and a privilege to walk beside you as you transition from this physical existence to what is next awaiting.
Samadhi is the eighth limb of yoga, and the highest state of human consciousness that we may attain. It is much more than the literal translation of a "death-like state" and can be experienced as the unification of all that is. When we exist in a state of samadhi, we no longer experience our human desires, cravings, or ego-generated thought; we can be one with the divine; we can experience true freedom.
"The compassionate presence and understanding provided by Liz from Sacred Samadhi made an incredibly difficult time more manageable. Her support was invaluable."
